Olelo noeau (literally “wise words”) are Hawaiian proverbs or sayings. This work is an interpretive landscape of the sand dunes at Mana, Kauai, the ancient name of which was preserved in an olelo noeau as “Ke one kani o Nohili” (The barking sands of Nohihi). This ahuula (royal cape or cloak) form has been shaped to also symbolize a volcano, the moku or island, of Kauai.
